A Word of Salvation

“One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, ‘Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!’ But the other rebuked him, saying, ‘Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong’. Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom’. He replied, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise’.” Luke 23:39-43
1. Jesus affirms the afterlife.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
2. Jesus remembers us and gives us a second chance.
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-23
3. We have a choice.
4. Proximity alone won’t save you.
The reality is that He is even closer to you than 20 feet.
“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:8-9
Jesus wants to give us a second chance, but it’s our choice.
